On July 27 - 28, 2009, the Uruguayan Ministry of Education and Culture, Agencia para el Desarrollo del Gobierno de Gestión Electrónica y la Sociedad de la Información y del Conocimiento (AGESIC), and Instituto para la Justicia organized the conference: "Rights, Teens and Social Networks on the Internet" in Montevideo, Uruguay.
At the Seminar, the Memorandum on Protection of personal data and privacy in online social networks (Memorandum sobre la protección de datos personales y la vida privada en las redes sociales en Internet, en particular de niños, niñas y adolescentes) was adopted. The document set several recommendations to the various stakeholders in Latin America requesting the protection of personal data and privacy in online social networks, particularly the privacy of children and adolescents.
